Dance medicine
Dance medicine is a subspecialty of general medicine meant to promote the physical and emotional health and well-being of dancers of all abilities, styles, and ages. It encompasses injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, and movement education tailored specifically to dancers to promote a safe return to dance classes and performance.
A dance medicine clinician can be any medical professional that has an intimate understanding of the physical and emotional demands of a dancer. Many dance medicine clinicians were dancers or performers themselves and recognize the importance of having a medical professional in their corner who understands what they are experiencing.
With the same movement background and vocabulary as their patients, dance medicine clinicians facilitate a better discussion and understanding of how an injury occurred and what continues to cause pain.
